Center for Solar Cell Materials and Process R&D Workforce Cultivation Program

Greetings from the Director

The Solar Cell Materials and Process R&D Workforce Cultivation (SCMP) Program at Yeungnam University is initiated in November, 2010 as a participating organization of Energy Workforce Development Project by Korean Ministry of Knowledge Economy, and funded by KETEP (Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning) for 5 years (2011.11~2015.6).

By establishing and operating an industry-friendly education program and research system on photovoltaic material and process, this center will make a great contribution in supplying excellent human resources needed for the development of national leading industry.

Fourteen professors in the School of Chemical Engineering and Department of Physics, and 12 industries including LG Innotek, LG Siltron, OCI Materials, STX Solar are participating to foster the photovoltaic specialists thru this program. We sincerely hope that this program will bear fruitful results.

Goals

The ultimate goal of SCMP is to cultivate R&D workforce in the field of photovoltaics for the development of materials and processes related with solar cell. The SCMP will perform creative and innovative research and technology development which will lead to the creation of new growth engines in renewable energy area for regional and national economy development.

Strategy

The photovoltaic (PV) industry is an environment-friendly and sustainable energy resource, and it is expected to become a new growth engine of Korean economy with its high value-addedness when properly combined with the existing world-leading semiconductor and display technologies in Korea. However, PV industry in Korea lacks in skilled workforce to pursue this mission of developing core technologies in the PV area, and urgently need the workforce. Therefore, SCMP is performing a variety of R&D activities in PV area by the expert group of professors specializing in solar cells. The SCMP will deliver world-class R&D workforce suited for PV industries in Korea for developing core materials and process technologies.
