On the 29th, at the YU Cheonma Art Center, an entrance ceremony and various welcome events were held for 5,000 new students.

<YU 2024 Freshman Entrance Ceremony (Cheonma Art Center, February 29)>


 YU (President CHOI Oe-chool) held a welcome reception combined with the entrance ceremony for the 2024 new students.


 On February 29th at 2 p.m., about 5,000 freshmen of the class of '24 gathered at YU campus. After completing course registration and orientation in their respective departments, new students moved to the Cheonma Art Center where the entrance ceremony was held. The Grand Hall of the Cheonma Art Center was filled with freshmen, and the atmosphere was vibrant.


 In the pre-ceremony events started at 2:30 pm before the official entrance ceremony, YU freshmen opened the gate of the entrance ceremony with vocal music and by learning school songs with seniors. Before the ceremony commenced, alumni active in various walks of life in Korea, such as Senior Vice Chairman KIM Gwan-yong (Economics '64) of the Advisory Council for Democratic and Peaceful Unification, SHIN Tae-yong (Physical Education '88), head coach of the Indonesian national soccer team, YANG Jun-hyuk (Economics '88), chairman of the Yang Jun-hyuk Baseball Foundation, and singer LEE Chan-won (Economics and Finance '15), delivered congratulatory videos and best wishes, receiving applause from the attendees.


The commencement ceremony was attended by over 5,000 YU freshmen, along with Chairman HAN Jae-sook of Yeongnam School Corporation, President CHOI Oe-chool, and other key university officials. At 3 p.m., the freshmen embarked on their first official event as YU students, commencing with the declaration of admission by President CHOI Oe-chool and the oath of admission by the freshman class representatives.

 In her encouraging speech, Chairman HAN Jae-sook of Yeongnam School Corporation stated, "I extend a warm welcome to the new students on behalf of the entire Cheonma family of Yeongnam School Corporation. Rooted in the founding spirit of the late former President Park Chung-hee, YU has played a pivotal role in the country's development, graduating over 260,000 students. I encourage you to develop the resilience to face and overcome the various challenges you'll encounter at YU as you pursue higher academic pursuits.” She continued, "I hope that you will fulfill your dreams and hopes by fully utilizing your abilities and aptitudes as you pursue your studies with the grand ambition of becoming global leaders in your respective career fields with big dreams and hopes."

In his welcome speech, President CHOI Oe-chool remarked, "Your decision to join YU, with its motto 'Gaze to the future, challenge to the world,' to nurture leaders who will steer Korea towards a dignified society in this era of advancement, is commendable. I extend my heartfelt welcome and congratulations to the new students. We also express our gratitude to the parents for their unwavering support. At YU, we'll foster you with parental care.” He continued, "YU is a university committed to nurturing your dreams. We live in a society experiencing rapid changes in social culture and technology, demanding proficiency and expertise in emerging fields. Leveraging our exceptional educational and research capabilities, alongside an adaptive educational framework, we stand by you amidst the exciting challenges and opportunities ahead. We'll empower and guide you to realize your full potential on the global stage."

 YU held a welcome party for the freshmen as the second part of the event. Starting with the relay congratulatory videos of students and staff produced by the students of UBS, YU education broadcasting, various events including a performance by the College of Education Student Association and dance majors from the College of Physical Education and Sports and congratulatory performances prepared by college students welcomed the freshmen. The girl group STAYC took the stage towards the end of the welcome ceremony, receiving an enthusiastic response from the freshmen.

 KIM Min-joon, a freshman majoring in electronics engineering, expressed, "Taking the oath of admission as a freshman representative at this once-in-a-lifetime event holds significant meaning for me. I expect the campus life as such many seniors and professors prepared diverse events and welcome us. I’d like to enjoy my campus life with the sense of belonging to and love of the school as a student of YU.
